Produced and directed by The Happy Dagger
Video Documentary, 2012
Mickey Smith (b. Duluth, Minnesota, 1972) is a conceptual artist and photographer. Her practice has been engaged with a longstanding inquiry into libraries, books and archives and in particular the social significance of their physical existence or disappearance.
Smith received a BA in Photography from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1994. She has exhibited throughout the United States, in China, Russia and New Zealand. Mickey’s work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Weisman Art Museum, Sheldon Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art Library. Smith is the recipient of awards from the McKnight Foundation, Forecast Public Art Affairs, CEC ArtsLink, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Americans for the Arts and Creative New Zealand. Her first artist's book, Denudation, published by Hassla, was included in the photo book installation exhibited in A Different Kind of Order: The ICP Triennial.
Smith has lived in Auckland since 2012 and is represented by Invisible-Exports in New York.
