As You Will: Carnegie Libraries of the South Pacific
“A mesmerizing and often poignant meditation on technological obsolescence, small-town politics and contradictory ideas of progress.” - Charles Walker
As You Will: Carnegie Libraries of the South Pacific examines the historic legacy of 23 Carnegie Libraries erected across the South Pacific. Over the course of three years, Mickey Smith photographed the 16 remaining Carnegie buildings in Australia, Fiji and New Zealand. Her images and research capture these gifts, frozen in time – few still functioning as libraries, others repurposed as restaurants, community centers, left as empty. As You Will includes maps, original applications and historic images of each of original building.
